Jim Smith has worked as a freelance photographer in publishing and advertising. He has focused his career on creating books for the nation’s best publishers and has authored and published a number of his own works. A graduate of Pratt Institute, Jim has received special recognition for his extraordinary images showcasing people, museums, travel and food.
Jim recently completed a new book for Walt Disney called, PICTURING THE WALT DISNEY FAMILY MUSEUM. It showcases Jim’s visual tour of the new Disney museum and the city of San Francisco.
One of Jim’s most original books is called FATHERS: A CELEBRATION. It is a coffee table book published by St. Martin’s Press featuring images of fathers and their new babies.
One of Jim’s most celebrated collection of images was created for his book THE IRISH FACE IN AMERICA. Published by Time Warner Books, it is a large-scale photo book on Irish Americans.
Jim created a book for the National Civil Rights Museum called EVERYDAY PEOPLE. It features a visual tour of the museum and a striking portrayal of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Jim is currently working on a new version of this beloved book.
His series about cooking for John Wiley & Sons, Inc. has sold over one and a half million copies. His latest book in that series, PROFESSIONAL COOKING SEVENTH EDITION, has just been published. It features over one thousand of Jim’s images on food and cooking.
His photographs have appeared in the most prominent publications and magazines such as: Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, Travel and Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, Destinations, New York Magazine, Vogue, Memphis Magazine, Hibernia and The Washington Post.
Jim lives and maintains his studio in The Hudson Valley, New York.
